Eunice’s Letter for April 2010
Dear Friends
A very Happy Easter to you all!
The winter is over, the springtime has come. In my mind it really is easy to believe in the resurrection when I see the snowdrops and daffodils putting their heads above the soil after a long time in the dark.
For many it is difficult to believe because they have no proof. The only historical proof we have is that Jesus died and rose again from the dead three days later and was seen by many. I agree this can be difficult to believe and here is a quote that seems sensible:
“Those who live as if there were no after-life will gain nothing if they are proved to be right and will lose everything if they are proved to be wrong. Those live as if the present influences the next world, have lost nothing if they are proved to be wrong and will have gained everything if they are proved to be right.”
Blaise Pascal. 1923-1962
The only real proof for us these days comes when we see the outcome of living as if the present influences the next world - because it makes a difference to us and those around us. Faith is believing in something we cannot see, otherwise it wouldn’t be faith. If you think that is fanciful then give it a try - you have nothing to lose - and maybe everything to gain!
Jesus said to Thomas:
“Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed”.
John 20. 29.
Jesus did not want Thomas to believe simply in the after-life, but he wanted him to regain his trust and belief in himself. It is this that we celebrate - that Christ is alive and calls us to believe and trust in him.
What a gift!!
May God bless you.
