Eunice’s letter for August 2008

Dear Friends,

What good news that Kate and Geri McCann have been released from the dreadful suspicion placed upon them during the disappearance of their little girl, Madeleine.  Most of us cannot begin to understand what this family have endured over the past 14 months.  To lose a child is bad enough - to be accused unjustly is to add insult to injury.  Let us continue to pray for a resolution to this tragic situation.

The holiday season is upon us and no doubt many of you will be going off to sunny Portugal or some other place to catch some sun.  The credit squeeze has caused a lot of people to stay away from foreign places and to take a holiday at home this year.  As you go away, spare a thought for those who cannot afford a holiday and are really finding life very difficult financially.  We cannot always blame the government for the situation we find ourselves in.  Sometimes our problems are of our own making and sometimes they are caused by circumstances beyond our control.  Whatever the situation it is better not to waste energy bewailing our misfortunes.

Someone once said to me, “There are no problems, only opportunities”.  Are these economic difficulties an opportunity for us to see just how resourceful we can be.  Where can we cut down?  We could even have fun trying out recipes that are less expensive and still have a good diet.  Maybe it is an opportunity to give public transport another chance by going to work by bus if possible.  It can be an opportunity to discover community is a new way by pulling together and seeing how we can help one another.

Whatever kind of difficulty there is, in this country we are still very fortunate.  Counting our blessings is still the best way to survive hardship.

Whatever you are doing this holiday, may you be kept safe and feel refreshed as you spend time relaxing.
